Rocky and the Petsafe Electric Fence

My dog Rocky just playing around in the yard. We have an electric fence in the yard and you can tell where the boundaries are when he plays with the ball. The wire is across the joint in the driveway and along the side of the yard. He stays ouside pretty much all day long and never leaves the yard! My hot wife Myra makes an appearance also.

5 Training Steps for the PetSafe Wireless Fence

!±8± 5 Training Steps for the PetSafe Wireless Fence

For a PetSafe wireless fence to be effective, it's important you spend time training your dog. This will ensure your dog learns how to stay within the wireless fence perimeter.

Training Tools:

* Wireless fence collar
* Training flags
* Leash
* Duct tape
* Ball or toy

1: Set Up The Training Flags

Place the PetSafe Wireless Fence training flags around the warning zone perimeter about 2-3 feet apart. To locate the warning zone perimeter, turn your dog's receiver collar on and hold it in your hand. Walk towards the wireless dog fence boundary. When the collar beeps, place a flag in that spot.

2: Introduce Your Dog to the Wireless Dog Fence Warning Zone

Cover the metal prongs on your receiver collar with duct tape during this training step. You don't want your dog to receive static corrections just yet. Attach a leash to the training collar and walk your dog to one of the flags. hen the collar beeps, give the leash a quick tug and tell your dog "No." Guide your dog away from the flag and praise your dog after the beeping stops. Practice this step every time your dog is in the yard over the first two days of training. To avoid confusion, do not allow your dog to run freely in the yard during this wireless dog fence training period.

3: Introduce the Static Corrections on Day Three

With the duct tape removed from the prongs and a firm grip on the leash, allow your dog to approach a flag. When the collar beeps, wait to see if your dog retreats. If not, allow your dog to receive a static correction. After your dog receives the correction, tug the leash, tell your dog "No," then provide praise. Practice this step each time you let your dog outside over the next two days.

4: Reinforce Your Dog's Wireless Fence Training over the Following Week

With the leash attached to the collar, allow the leash to drag on the ground. Toss a ball or toy outside of the wireless fence boundary. If training has been effective, your dog will stop and retreat when it hears the beep or when it receives a correction. If your dog responds, this is a good indication that you can soon trust your dog to roam the yard leash-free. Practice this step 3-4 times a day.

5: Remove the Leash and Supervise

Remove the leash and allow your pet to roam freely around the yard. Supervise your dog for the first 3-5 days. When you feel certain training has been effective, leave him alone for short intervals (3-5 minutes), but watch him from a door or window. When you trust he understands to stay within the boundaries of the wireless fence, you can begin leaving him in the yard completely unsupervised.
